Can you say, "S#@K

Yes, my run today really stunk! I was weak, hungry, dizzy, tired and lethargic. I probably should of just walked home!
Oh well...I managed to make it home alive! I know there will be days like this so I shall not take it to heart. I know that the 8 miles yesterday probably impacted this run.
Still, I had a great week with logging almost 30 miles! Peace!

Long Run-

Well I consider 8 miles a long run right now. I actually have run two 8 milers this week! I'm sitting in 25+ miles already this week! Tomorrow I'd like to run a short distance but make it a kind of tempo run. My feet seem to be holding up....my will power in regards to eating is weak! I need to cut out the sugar! Oh how I love sugar! Peace!

Cool down

We have been blessed to receive a respite from the heat. Rain and clouds with somewhat cooler temps make for delightful running.
I logged 4.4 ez recovery miles today. Tomorrow is a rest day. I really need to be careful because I feel so good I might tend to over train and run smack into an injury.
So, rest tomorrow then I hope to run an 8 miler Friday. Hope all is well with you! Peace!

Piling it on!

So yesterday I did an 8 miler on the treadmill....too much lightning out there, today I logged a nice recovery 5 miler. So that's 13 miles in 2 days! I'm slowly getting back!
I am feeling great. Some soreness occasionally in the feet and Achilles but nothing debilitating.
Hope all is well with you! Peace!

Massive week!

I logged 28.6 miles this week! That is fantastic for this old injury riddled runner! The feet feel great. I have to do several supplementary exercises in order to stay healthy and they are working!
I hope to maintain or increase slightly next week. I do know I will add one mile to my "long run" on Monday. I will do 8- hope all is well with you! Peace!

Early Bird-

So I got out the door by 7:30am! Now that's early for this old bird! I usually run around 1pm but the heat and humidity is oppressive and dangerous right now.
I managed 7.1 miles and finished drenched!
I am on track for a good week! Hope all is well with you!

Swelt to svelt!

Nothing like the hot Summer temps to burn off fat! The body has to work so hard to stay cool that the calories burn like dry wood on a bonfire!
I will continue to try to run in the earlier part of the day. I hope to at least log 25+ miles this week and increase very slowly! So far so good! 4.8 total today! Peace!

What won't kill you....

The heat is on....I did get out early but by 3 miles I was completely soaked. I noticed at one time I was really sucking air! Yet, this hot weather training really has benefits when cooler weather rolls around. So 5 miles today. Now fluids, breakfast, and a nap! Peace!

Summer swelt

So yes I do love Summer. Yet it surely can kill you!! Today I needed out early because the heat is on and my schedule called for a 7 miler. I dawdled around and didn't get out until 9:15am so needless to say....the heat nailed me!
I did complete the 7 miles but had to take several walk breaks. I am a big believer in the benefits of hot weather running but it can be dangerous. I did carry a handheld so I stayed fairly hydrated.
I'm on track!! Hope to run the HM in September! Peace!!

Love love love

Oh yes, I love the new watch!! Garmin 320. Really easy to navigate. Fantastic screen. Cool features. 6.6 ez miles today. Last mile was my fastest. I felt rough starting out but was better by the end. Hope you are well....peace-

Always sumpin'

Seems that there is always some type of item wearing out! A car, a dishwasher, a roof, or a garage door! Yes, a garage door! My automatic garage door broke yesterday! It is actually jammed shut so we are not able to get a car out!
Not a good situation. So I wait for the garage door Doctor to arrive and charge me a fortune--
Otherwise....I wore out the road today ( I wish) no, I ran an easy 4 miler. The heat and humidity are back...I like...and now it's a rest day tomorrow. If I can get a car out I may go get some ice cream!
  Peace!

July monsoon!

It is really wet here in the Ozarks. We received another .75" of rain today. This makes for wonderful running weather!
I ran 6 yesterday and added a nice 5 miler to the week today. I really felt great! Wishing I had my new watch. I know I was running at a pretty good pace today so my hot weather training is paying off.
I'm strongly considering running a Half in the first part of September. We will see... it all depends on the Achilles and plantar- so far so good! Peace!

Good News

Well my Garmin 305 died last week. It served me well for over 7 years. I did a lot of research and have decided to use the Garmin 230. I think this watch ought to work great!
So while I wait for the new watch to arrive I run watchless- I pretty much know the distance markers and can  accurately guess my pace so I did a 6 miler today. Man, I felt great! Getting out early makes a lot of difference in the Summer!
My feet and legs feel fine-even after running 32 years I still am mindful of running form. We can get lazy, and sloppy in our form at times and this will often result in injury.
So thinking about push-off, where my feet land (in line with hips) I find my body is more united in the running effort. Sadly we cannot stop the clock! Our bodies will slow and our strength will decrease, yet running is the only anti-dote that slows this process.
Recently I've been aware of most other fellows my age-they are either dead, obese, or stricken with multiple maladies and on various medicines.
If they'd only get out and move!! It could (would) change their life! Peace!

Watch out

My Garmin 305 finally bit the dust. I am currently running watchless! In a way it's kind of liberating, yet I miss all the statistics.
I ran an easy 3.2 miler today and continue to enjoy the cut down week. I am searching for a new watch....any suggestions would be appreciated!

Cut Down week

So I ran 25.6 miles last week! Plus....currently...I am not experiencing any heel or Achilles discomfort. Of course I have to do supplemental exercises every day to insure and aid in staying strong. It sure feels good to gain back some real consistency!
This week I will cut back 25% in mileage. I cut back every fourth week during my training. I found this to be very effective in my last training block some 2 years ago!
Then I will add a 10% increase every week up to the next cut down. I hope to run a race of some sort soon....well gotta hit the road! Hope you are well!

Sauna

This is the most wonderful time of year! I love the heat and humidity! Yet I still get out earlier due to my advanced age! 4.4 miles! ...
