Weekly repeats

Week in and week out we runners train! Yes I run for just the sake of running but I remember when my running took a turn from just fun to something more....racing! Now racing is fun!!
So we train to have fun in our races.....what could be more fun than having gutted out a 10K and in the last 100 meters hold off a late charge from a rabbit? Nothing!! (Well almost nothing if you know what I mean).
So we train...I did 10 X 175m hill repeats today @ 10K effort. Total time with warm-up cool-down 52 minutes. Feeling good, a little tired, but good. Going out with friends tonight. Hope you are well! Peace!

Let's get serious!!!

The fear of commitment!! Remember when you wanted to tell that special person you loved them but wanted them to say the three lovely words first? Fear and uncertainty, plus putting yourself out there!!! I am ready to get serious about this extra 13 lbs I have been unable to unload!
Most people I talk to say..."where you gonna lose it?" I already look slim and trim, yet we runners know! We know the extra little ring around the waist! The best marathon I ever ran I ran at 172 lbs. I am at 185 right now. I am 6'1" so I am a bigger runner.
I have been busting tail and not seeing any loss! So it's time to get serious about what goes in the mouth! I'm ready to make the commitment! Today so far; a bowl of cereal, 2 tbsp Chia seed soaked in water, one apple and 3 fig newtons. I have never been so well hydrated in my life since beginning the chia seeds btw. I will have to eat out tonight.....a meeting late today...I will seek some sort of salad....(to the tune of green acres) Good bye buffets! Hello I will graze.....corny!!
I did a total time of 44 minutes today, with 15X Short Hill. A real good effort. You know, like blood pressure is the silent killer, hills are the silent power! You will run stronger, more efficient, and faster with adding hills to your training I promise!! I decreased my time and increased my intensity today yet I am still at 16.44 for the week. Hope all is well with you!! Peace!

Rexting?!

Today there is a hint of spring in the air!! 40ish with high clouds and a light breeze. The birds are singing, and the Woodpecker pecking! Just a joy to be part of the event!
As I was running along the road a red truck went by, he/she went off of the road! He/She kept driving half on and half off? Was he/she texting? Or was he/she runner gawking? Was it a he or a she? Maybe she was? Dream on old man!! Runner gawking can be as dangerous as texting...be careful out there Spring is coming and the "cuckoo" birds will be out!
Man, I'm here to tell you I am a believer in hill repeats! Even though I've a low base of miles my efforts are already bearing fruit. I felt so strong today and I actually knocked off one mile @ MP! Yahoo!! Well, I ran 30 min then did four hard 80-90% Hill Repeats of 1/10 of a mile each.
I'm slated for one more 40 minute run this week then I expand to four days next week at 30 minutes a pop. Hope the day is an event where you are! Peace!

HR= Hill Repeats!

Today I upped to 40 minutes. I'll only run three times this week. Man I hope it warms up! It's just flat out frigid! Oh how I long for Spring and SUMMER!! I love the sauna!!
The hill repeats are definitely working! My training pace seems faster? I've noticed that out on the roads hills are treated differently now (mentally).
I ran for 30 min then did 4 hill repeats. This is how it has been going...I'll go out and run but save the last ten minutes for hills. One thing to be sure...hill repeats are work! You heart rate is up and so is the breathing rate. I have actually been nearly out of breath a couple of times!
So the rebuilding continues...slow but sure...10% increase...stabilizing next week with four runs @ 30 min each. Interesting mental change: Looking at running in time first rather than distance? Probably will change back?! Peace!!

Feel the Burn, Baby!

Today the weather changed!!!! Yesterday it was 60 and sunny...I rested, today 40 and blustery...I ran. So I do an easy warm-up of around 15 minutes, I start feeling the "fat burn" evidence that I've been laying off exercise and laying on the pounds! I'm happy! A good sign! So I hit the hill repeats again! 7 of them and I jogged back down on each one. Here's what I'm doing...burning more calories in less time! I am sucking air but lovin' it! Maybe I'll be back to a regular course of training, soon? I seriously doubt I can be race ready very soon but if I can JUST KEEP on the very other day pattern!!!
Well, much to do today, The African Choir is in town, also, I hear through the faith based grapevine that several Haitian orphans may be making their way to Springfield. Sandy and I have been talking......Peace!!
