Having an injury has been tough. I've been used to consistent durability and runability, but the Achilles tendon issue sprang up a year ago. I ran through it for five months until it began to hurt where I could not even walk without pain. Stupid...yes! Stubborn, too. So I rested. Now, five solid weeks of 150 minutes of running per week. The tendon is not 100% but I can see that it is healing. I experience pain free running!
I know that a marathon is probably not in the cards. I am committed to taking it slow. If need be I'll stay at base camp for as long as needed.
48 minutes today! Peace!

Get back on the horse!
So I took three days of rest, the heel feels great it's the ankle that is the prob. I was thinking today all the years I 've run w/o injury and now I'm dealing with a real run buster!
I will keep doctoring the best I know how and try to continue running through this issue. Today I ran the full hill, 1.8 tenths long, and felt pretty good. I got my 30 mins in...I will take it day by day and see what the right foot/ankle says. Hope all is well with you! Peace!

Nursing wounds-coolspot
The right heel is acting up. It's Achilles tendonitis. I can tell because there is a burning sensation even when not running. It is not prohibiting running, yet. I iced when I got in today. It doesn't really "hurt" during the run so I'm still okay to run. Hills have a way of stressing the body! There are points we come to in training- the breakthrough or the breakdown- it is a fine line sometimes to make the breakthrough. Today, knowing I'm on the line I decided to take it easy on my hill run by keeping the heart rate as low as possible. I had to run slow but that's okay. With 87 degrees and 61% humidity it was a good idea to go slow.
Seems I am in the process of developing a new attitude. One that embraces the miles and the suffering. An attitude that can make a marathon smaller in the mind. Where the idea of racing a marathon is a reality! Not just surviving one, or finishing one, but racing one!
8.17 miles in 1:40.12. Went off road today. I saw an old trail off of Redbridge Road and decided to take it. It went for about a 1/4 of a mile into the forest. So peaceful, but man I ate up the Spider webs! Found a really cool spot to rest for a minute and drink my water.
Well, here's hoping I make the breakthrough, and you do, too! Peace!

Jinxed-Taper Phase week two
I must've jinxed Spring! I declared it to be Spring last week and look at it now!! "Mercy sakes" as my Granny used to say, it's cold and nasty out there! There is a freeze warning out tonight. All the plants, left uncovered will be burned severely. What a shame!
Well week two of the taper is here. I will decrease to just 24 miles this week. I put in a good effort today-6.4 miles in 64 minutes. Easy warm-up and cool down. Did 30 minutes at 9mpm pace.
I noticed my right lower quad was very stiff and swollen? I am icing as I type. It didn't hurt during the run, nor did the hip, so I'm thinking with some smarts I will be able to make the starting line ready and well.
Rest of the week looks like this:
Tues- off
Wed-10miles at MP
Thurs-3 miles ez
Friday-5 miles 6x100 striders
Saturday- moving sale (cross training!)
Sunday off- total for week-24+ miles
