Last Hurrah

They say we've a cold front coming. It will hit the 70's for highs! Man, break out the coat!!! I decided to bust out a tough run today...2K hill mid-day. It's close to 100 degrees and the sun is out full force. I did it! It was hard but I survived. I believe it will make me stronger. I had the best month in miles logged in nearly two years, 128.11. Plus I am less than 80 miles from breaking 20,000 lifetime miles! Yes, I am obsessive when it comes to record keeping! Been journaling my runs ever since 1985! Hope all is well with you! Peace!

Steamer...Charlie?

So I met a Hillbilly a while back. He is a short, rotund, 60ish, long white bearded, bespectacled man. His name is Charlie. Today as I ran by his shack...he was out under a shade tree...no air conditioning you know! It's about 98 degrees today so Charlie was taking it easy. I, of course, was running! What a sight I must've been to him.....I can just imagine what he was thinking...."city slickers...movin' out and takin' over the country with there new fangeled ways....it ain't like it used to was..."
Any way...we are friends. My heel is cooperating and I was able to run 6 miles today. I am taking it day by day so we will see what tomorrow holds tomorrow! Hope you are well! Peace!

#600

Today is my 600th blog posting. I still enjoy doing this and I really am thankful for the friends I have in the blogosphere. The blog is really a good motivational tool. Some are really good! Some are mediocre..(ahem)..oh well I push on. :)
Today I made it all the way down to the bottom of Center Road....otherwise known by me as 2K hill. I actually ran all the way up today. The cooler temps are making a huge difference! So 80 minutes of running today with 3 more runs on tap this week. I ought to reach into the 30 mile region again this week....pretty good base building. Hope you are well! Peace!

Lips match life

You all hear me preaching the importance of listening to your body but do I do it? I have run myself into the ground more than once in my life!!! This week I ran 115 minutes on Monday, 75 minutes on Tuesday, and yesterday I was beat! Normally it would of been hill reps.....but I napped instead!!! I listened! Today, still a little tired I eased into a run with the intention of a short warm up then hill reps....yet I began to think.....where am I in training mode now? I need to begin a transition into focusing on the long run and pace runs so I headed off down Center road....towards the dreaded 2K hill!!!! I would incorporate a rolling hill run with pace....and run up 2K hill to boot. I only went down 2/3rds the way this time and proudly knocked off a 9 minute mile on the way home! A 46:45 minute run putting me at 20.65 miles for the week. I have two runs left. 75 minutes EZ tomorrow, and 75 minutes with 2minutes X 8reps @ HM pace on Saturday. A big week of Bluegrass coming up. I am blessed to be able to play music with some fine friends and neighbors. We will be traveling to a real cool place this Saturday called "The Star Theatre" in Willow Springs, Mo. A really cool venue! Hope you are well my friend!! Peace!

Nice and easy

After yesterdays wonderful encounter I thought I'd go down 2K hill on a nice and easy run....my goal being 50 minutes today. I made it about 1K down the hill then it was time to turn around. I am focusing on form and ease, gliding if you will. I want to run high miles and I want to stay as injury free as possible. I am dealing with common aches and pains but nothing debilitating. I am currently rotating 3 pairs of Kayanos, a 15, 16, and 17! The 15's are kind of like racing flats now as they are very worn, I use them on hills and intervals. I usually will run the rubber way down before I retire them!! I think it keeps the feet strong if you rotate shoes, from real comfort to minimal comfort...plus in these temps it gives them a chance to dry! So I am up to 12 miles already this week! Hoping for 50 minutes of hills tomorrow! Peace!

Getting there...

So I completed another week...however my streak was broken. I had been running every day but Sunday for several weeks and that streak ended yesterday. I was totally exhausted yesterday. I seem to have way too much on my plate. Bunches of meetings, errands, study, and when it was time to run I decided to nap!!! I was hoping for more miles this week but 22 is still adequate. So no run tomorrow, and another week will begin! I am looking forward to it!!! 41 minutes, part of 2K hill and 5X1min @ HM pace. Peace!

We talkin' trails then dog attack

I crossed the Bull creek today, had to stop and take my shoes off, the water is over the slab by about a foot, then dry my feet, re shoe, and run...the trail was not bad, I've decided I need to research a good shoe for trails and road.
Scared up another turkey, saw an old cemetery, saw a conservation agent, ran to a fork in the road and turned back.
As I was nearing home here came the house with the dogs, sure enough here came the one full bore right at me, I really felt like he was going to take a hunk out of me, I swung the stick and caught him on the side of the head, he yelped and retreated. I really feel bad about this, I love dogs!
I'm certain the owners have to know this has happened. I do not want to get off on the wrong foot with a neighbor but I really believed this animal was going to bite!
My stick actually broke at the bottom so I got him good.
8.13 miles today. Felt good. Trail running is slow, though. Peace (I wish)

On the road again

Back on the road today. I covered 6.48 miles at an easy pace. My body seems to be extremely sore and not recovering as swiftly as I would hope. I guess it's just the age factor.
I will keep running and stretching. I really want to start some speed work soon. My goal is to break the 1:55 barrier in the half.
I got 25 more trees in the ground! I'm getting there! Great time with the family tonight, too!
Peace!

Sunshine!

Finally after many days we have some sunshine. I did the Bull Creek turnaround, or what I call the 2K hill. The dogs are still giving me grief but I'm becoming less concerned that they will bite. I'm still miffed that the owners allow such behavior but it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

5.35 miles. The out was in 9:35's and the back was like 11's. I felt good and hope to begin increasing mileage soon.

Spent two hours on the mower today, too! Still have 250 tree to plant!!!! Peace!
